Land-locked Hungary is famous for its hot waters and thermal springs. First exploited by the Romans for medical reasons, the waters are now largely used for relaxation with spas and bathhouses a popular pastime. Check out the ornate dome and frescoed ceilings of Gellert Baths in Budapest or the outdoor pools at Szechenyi.
Hungary has endured a troubled past. First colonised by the nomadic Magyars in the ninth century, it has been invaded and occupied by various powers throughout history, each of them leaving their mark on its rich cultural heritage.
Its capital Budapest is made up of two very different areas, Buda & Pest, each located on opposite sides of the Danube. Buda is on the hill, atmospheric, historic and packed with neoclassical buildings whilst Pest is the sprawling commercial centre with art nouveau architecture. The two areas combine to provide a cultural centre, packed with music, art, literature and historical sites. Oh, and don’t forget the nightlife!
Outside the city and to the south west, you’ll find Lake Balaton, the largest body of freshwater in Central Europe. Popular with locals the lake has beautiful beaches and lively resorts.
Winters in Hungary are freezing and ski-iers flock north to Bakony Hills for forest slopes and apres ski thermal baths.

We’re ready to create your dream trip to Hungary
The hotels in Budapest and Prague were excellent. We were upgraded at the Continental Hotel Budapest. The drivers who picked us up and delivered us to our hotels or to the airport were on time and excellent. The guide in Budapest was also excellent. The city tour was informative and the two days (Danube Bend Private Day Trip and the Godollo and Lazar Equestrian Park Private Day Tour) were well organized. The two different guides we had in Prague were also excellent (walking tour, Cesky Krumlov Private Day Trip and Kutna Hora Private Day Trip). Sally you did an excellent job of organizing our trip to this fascinating part of the world. We loved learning about the complicated history of these two countries and loved getting out and exploring the country side. We are most grateful for all you did to make this trip memorable. Best wishes to you and your staff and hopethat you continue your excellent work!!!
